"MY LIFE IN TV NEWS"
"30 YEARS BEHIND THE ANCHOR DESK....ONE WOMAN'S SUCCESS STORY"
"ONE WOMAN SUCCESS STORY...AND THE MEN WHO MADE IT”

During her 34-year broadcasting career....Carol LeBeau was among the first women to break into local tv news...gain parity with men in the business....ultimately moving into the "lead" role on the news desk in recent years. Her biggest supporters? The men in her life....starting with her Dad, swim coach and college professor and Continuing with her mentor, bosses, work colleagues and husband. But recently, Carol has observed a disturbing trend among young women. For all the progress women have made in most career fields in the last 40 years...many continue to repeat the tired mantras of the 60's about women as workplace victims. Carol prefers to proclaim victory and hope for today's working women.

YOU NEED A FRIEND……REALLY!   (co-presented with best friend for nearly 30 years….Susan Haber)

Over the past 20 years….women have made solid gains in their careers.   Yet, while striving to get ahead…many have neglected their personal lives.  Even with increasing job parity…many women find something is missing.

Columnists and talk show hosts who discuss women’s issues say in the 80’s and 90’s women were most concerned about their careers.  In recent years, the number one concern is relationships.

In their quest for upward mobility and success, women set friendship aside.  Yet studies show women who have better health and overall well-being have taken the time to build and keep supportive relationships in their lives.Carol Lebeau

The “Superwoman” of the late, last century emphasized her independence.  For some the cost was the “Superwoman Syndrome.” Today’s woman is looking for more balance….realizing it’s impossible to do it all without some area of her life suffering.

Carol and Susan weave together recent scholarship on the benefits of friendship with the story of their own relationship… to provide  a fast-moving, humorous and practical talk on the importance of peer relationships.  As one expert put it, “Both men and women need women.”

Some of the topics Susan and Carol address include:

…important ingredients in making a keeping friends
…Why do I need a “girl” friend when I have men and stimulating activity in my life?
…Why friendship is important for good health and well-being
